RLS--also known as Willis-Ekbom Disease (WED)--is a neurological disorder characterized by throbbing, pulling, creeping, or other unpleasant sensations in the legs and an uncontrollable, sometimes overwhelming urge to move them. I have it, and there is no cure yet. These laments—“Maybe Tonight“ and "Punch My Calves"—will help you imagine the agony RLS often creates. And sometimes laments lead to healing.
Also, lots of people make lemonade out of the lemons (I learned woodworking in the wee hours of the night), so don’t miss “Always More.” RLS never touches our worth. Note this: Medications and lifestyle changes have made it so serious RLS episodes are infrequent for me. So I don’t live these nightmares very often. For more information, people who understand you, and opportunities to help out, visit and join the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation (rls.org). (Other people write less angsty poems about RLS, like Midnight. OK - it’s a little angsty, too.) More Resources |
