Leaves
I wrote this for my mom, Marilyn, after she found out she had Huntington's Disease. She passed away from complications of HD on February 22, 2017 (In Memoriam at MarilynSchrag). Some background: When I moved from Ohio to Rhode Island for university, I began a tradition of inserting a colorful leaf to send in a card for my mom's October birthday. Over the years, I've sent her leaves from Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, France, Cameroon, and DR Congo. The colors and associations with Fall and Spring leaves provided much grist for the creative mill, so even I don't understand all of the lyrics.
