The Band
I recorded this at Keith Smelser's "Cool equipment I've been collecting for years" Studio. Keith played bass and produced the song. Brad and Lynelle—my brother and sister—collaborated on early musical ideas. Nick Smelser was on drums, Mary Hendershott on flute, and I played keys, sang, and whistled. |
Composing “A Ring and an Island"Lydia and Samuel wanted me to write a song for their wedding on Whidbey Island (Seattle). Their requirements: “It has to be a song” (Lydia), “I want it to be happy” (Samuel). The result required lots of detailed crafting to express their unique story. The first and last section are in 5/8, a rare meter for me, symbolizing their deep unconventionality. And the long fade out represents the infinite path into Heaven I hope and pray for.
Also, Lydia Hreniuc created this elegant design for the lyrics. |
